At different points on the tumulus, areas with remains of offerings to
the dead were found. Here lay ashes, animal bones and broken clay vessels.
In the past, after burial, the relatives were in the habit of offering
to the dead libations, (such as water, wine, milk, honey) or food, in
rituals which took place close to the graves. The vases in which these
offerings were contained were usually smashed. Frequently they were thrown
into the fire which was thought to have purifying powers. Two rectangular
brick-built constructions were found on the eastern part of the tumulus.
On these were ashes and dozens of fragments of small clay vessels.
These platforms served as funerary altars for offerings to the dead.
Close to two of these platforms were two large pit hearths filled with
ashes.
